BHC Sundays: Compressing our Sunday Youth Sessions to run 4-6pm

26 May by David Gillespie

Starting this Sunday (31 May), all youth players will train in a single, high-energy block from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The Youth Academy session which normally runs from 6-7pm will take place on half the court from 4-5pm. On the other half, the U13s will work on skills appropriate to their age.

Coming off the momentum of the BrisCup and looking ahead to the upcoming New Zealand tours, we’ve taken a hard look at how we are using our Sunday court time.

Right now, stretching our sessions across three hours is diluting the intensity. To properly prepare our senior youth academy for international competition and give our younger players faster, more focused development, we are shifting to a high-intensity, condensed format for the remainder of the term.

Here is how the new structure works:

Hour 1: Split-Court Targeted Skills (4:00 PM - 5:00 PM)
We are splitting the floor to ensure everyone gets age-appropriate, high-repetition coaching:

The Academy (14+): Gwen will run high-level tactical preparation and physical conditioning on one half of the court.

Junior Club (U13s): Our coaching team will run a dedicated fundamental skills block on the other half, focusing on passing, shooting mechanics, and footwork.

Hour 2: Mixed Games (5:00 PM - 6:00 PM)
As a bonus, condensing the schedule means every player and parent gets to leave the gym by 6:00 PM to enjoy the rest of their Sunday evening.

We will see everyone on the floor at 4:00 PM sharp this weekend ready to run.
